“Jermain Defoe and Darren Bent aren’t playing for Tottenham, Peter Crouch isn’t playing for Liverpool and Alan Smith isn’t even playing up front at Newcastle.
“There’s only Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney and Michael Owen playing in their proper positions regularly.
“But domestic managers have a duty to win to games for their clubs, not international teams, and that’s the way it is I’m afraid.”
