Barton will be out of action for two months after going under the knife yesterday to fix the broken bone in his foot.
He told The Sun: “It’s extremely frustrating and I’m absolutely gutted, but injuries are all part and parcel of modern football. It’s a big blow for me and the manager and I’m disappointed for our fans because they’ve been fantastic ever since I arrived.”
