Newcastle United are in discussions to secure a significant long-term contract for teenage midfield sensation Lewis Miley as he approaches his 18th birthday.

The 17-year-old, who turned professional in May, has rapidly become one of the Premier League’s most exciting young talents.

The Telegraph reports that the Magpies are working towards a fresh long-term contract which will start after he turns 18 in May.

His remarkable progress was highlighted by his first senior goal during Newcastle’s recent victory over Fulham.

Miley’s exceptional talent and maturity have been pivotal in filling the gap left by Sandro Tonali’s ban and Joe Willock’s injury.

Miley, a local from County Durham and a Newcastle academy product, has also attracted England Under-19s’ attention and is a potential candidate for the Under-21 team if he maintains his first-team presence.
