The Daily Mail reports that Newcastle see the 27-year-old defender as an ideal signing in the January transfer window.
The 27-year-old is desperate to leave Birmingham and submitted a transfer request in August.
The defender came close to joining West Bromwich Albion in the summer but a deal fell through.
