Oster told evertonfc.com: “It was a little difficult, I have to be honest. It all just happened. I was bought for about £1.5m, and at the time that was quite a lot of money to spend on a teenager.
“I was a young lad still learning the game. I just went out there and played my football. I think only in hindsight do I realise how young I was when I joined.
“Moving away from home at such a young age and having to live in a house on your own is not easy.”
Oster added: “We found ourselves in a relegation battle but thankfully we did stay up and since then Everton have gone on to bigger better things.
“I was playing first team football with young players such as, Danny Cadamateri, Michael Ball and Francis Jeffers. But we did have some old heads to rely on in Gary Speed, Duncan Ferguson and Dave Watson.”
