Petrov told Villa’s website: “To play so well against such a top striker (Didier Drogba) shows how well he played. But maybe we shouldn’t be so surprised because Martin has been outstanding like that every time he has played.
“Unfortunately for him, he hasn’t been able to play anywhere near as often as he would have liked due to injuries.
“But now he has his own programme and we are now seeing the benefits as he is feeling great and playing with great confidence.
“Every time he plays, he plays to the maximum and he looked really hungry against Chelsea, fighting for every ball. He did his job perfectly.”
