Platt said: “I think United can win the treble. There is no doubt about that.
“They can win each of the three competitions.
“Sir Alex Ferguson has a group of individuals – such as Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ryan Giggs – who have such expansive, quick and unpredictable movement that when everything clicks they are phenomenal.
“And when everything doesn’t click then they are still formidable.
“They can win the treble simply because of the characteristics in the team. Look back to the first leg in Rome. They could have folded when they went a goal down with 10 men, but they didn’t.
“I would expect them to win the league and perhaps even the FA Cup but the Champions League will provide the great challenge.
“The semi-finals will be much tighter, with far fewer goals than the quarters. Would United want to concede three? No. But I don’t think they necessarily would.”
