News of the World says Porto could make a move after Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce admitted that he is willing to sell the South African.
McCarthy joined Blackburn from Porto in a £2.5million million deal in 2004.
Portsmouth are also considering a move for the 31-year-old if Blackburn allow him to leave cheaply.
