He said: “Bolton went to Old Trafford the other week as a top-five side. But they have a minus goal difference. Manchester United, in comparison, have a goal difference of plus 50.
“It shows that although the gap between first and fifth place may seem small, it’s actually massive.
“Bolton are 28 points behind Manchester United, the leaders, but only 27 points ahead of Watford, who are bottom.
“I don’t know how you can get over the gulf between the top four and the rest. Spurs are the only other side who should be pushing to get in there.
“Anything could happen on any given day between the rest.
“It’s that tight between the whole of the rest of the league.”
