Primus told The News: “To not finish in the top six after being there most of the season would be disappointing.
“But we have to ask: ‘Are we ready for Europe next season?’. If we did make it, that would be great. But you see many teams qualify with squads who are not big enough to cope.
“And the result is they struggle in the Premiership. What’s more important? Staying in the Premiership and being a top-10 team, or going into the UEFA Cup and then struggling? That’s the balance.
“You don’t want to have the buzz of getting into Europe, but then be struggling in the Premiership. It would be devastating for the club.
“This club need to be in the Premiership and staying there. So it could be a year too early.”
