The former Liverpool striker was left out of the England squad for the matches against Andorra and Croatia last month.
He told the Daily Star: “All I can do is play well for Portsmouth.
“If I catch his (Capello’s) eye that would be great.
“If I don’t, then I will continue working hard and doing my best for Portsmouth.
“The manager got a great result in Croatia, so I don’t think he is doing much wrong.
“I have got my head down and got results for Portsmouth with my fair share of goals.”
