When does the 2025 January transfer window open?
The transfer window for English clubs opens on Wednesday, January 1, 2025.
When is Deadline Day?
Deadline Day is on Monday, February 3, 2025, with the English window closing at 11 PM UK time.
When does the winter window close around Europe?
Most major European leagues, including France, Germany, Scotland, and Spain, close on Monday, February 3, 2025. However, times may vary.
Special deadlines for some countries:
- Italy: The window closes at 7 PM on Saturday, February 1, 2025.
- Turkey: The window closes on Tuesday, February 11, 2025.
- Saudi Arabia: The window shuts on January 30, 2025.
What about free agents?
Free agents can sign with any club at any time as they are not contracted to another team. However, players who are set to become free agents in July can agree to a transfer with a foreign club before their current contract ends, but they will officially join the new team only once their contract expires.

There has already been a lot of activity in the January transfer window. Manchester City are closing in on a few signings, while the arrival of Donyell Malen from Borussia Dortmund at Aston Villa is one of the big signings so far at £21.1 million. Aston Villa have also made one of the biggest sales so far, with Jaden Philogene moving to Ipswich Town in a £20 million deal.
Aston Villa’s activity in the 2025 January transfer market did not stop with that. Andres Garcia, Marcus Rashford, Marcos Asensio and Axel Disasi did also move to Aston Villa in something which marks an impressive haul in a market which is notoriously hard to navigate.
The two biggest signings of the January transfer window so far are both done by Manchester City. The £49.9 million signing of Nico Gonzales from Portuguese giants Porto and the arrival of Omar Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt in a £59 million deal.
