Premier League preview – Week 8

Tottenham v Chelsea

Key Battle: Gareth Bale goes up against Branislav Ivanovic on the left and who comes out on top will be important to deciding who wins this game.

Player to Watch: Moussa Dembele has been one of the players of the season and he can break down a tough Chelsea defence

Talking Point: Andre Villas Boas is looking to get one over on his former employers and his team are in ideal form to do just that.

Prediction: 2-1

Fulham v Aston Villa

Key Battle: Mladen Petric’s skill and work rate will pose difficulties for a young Aston Villa defence, with Ciaran Clark returning from Ireland duty having been thrashed by Germany last week.

Player to Watch: Damien Duff grabs important goals, and his skill and running will be a test for Villa.

Talking Point: Fulham have made a solid start to the season, while Aston Villa are still learning and getting used to Paul Lambert’s methods

Prediction: 1-1

Liverpool v Reading

Key Battle: Jem Karacan will be stretched by Luis Suarez and Liverpool as they look to put another vital three points on the board.

Player to Watch: Nuri Sahin has shown some of his promise so far since joining Liverpool and can put Reading to the sword.

Talking Point: Liverpool are looking for their first home win, Reading for their first three points of any sort. Surely only one result will come out of this one?

Prediction: 5-0

Man Utd v Stoke

Key Battle: Ryan Shawcross takes on his former team and Robin van Persie needing to be at his best to keep United at bay.

Player to Watch: Wayne Rooney was disappointing for England in midweek but surrounded by better team mates for United should be back to closer to his best.

Talking Point: Stoke’s usual solidity tends to be undone by Manchester United, and expect that to happen again here.

Prediction: 3-0

Swansea v Wigan

Key Battle: Michu and Shaun Maloney are both useful attacking midfielders who can break down opponents and score crucial goals.

Player to Watch: Arouna Kone has been one of the signings of the season and his pace and running will cause Swansea problems.

Talking Point: Two teams who like to play possession football meet in what should be an entertaining clash.

Prediction: 3-2

West Brom v Man City

Key Battle: Carlos Tevez’ skill and trickery will be all the more important in the absence of David Silva for Man City, and he will be up against Gareth Macauley and a tough West Brom defence.

Player to Watch: Sergio Aguero is the man who can breach a solid West Brom and give Manchester City the edge.

Talking Point: City will surely dominate possession but without Silva and against a good West Brom side who have been solid at home, may struggle to break through.

Prediction: 1-1

West Ham v Southampton

Key Battle: Rickie Lambert will be a tricky proposition for James Collins in the West Ham defence to handle, and he will have to be on his game to cope.

Player to Watch: Kevin Nolan will look to latch onto long high balls to pierce the leaky Southampton back line.

Talking Point: Surely a team as direct as West Ham will puncture holes in this leaky Southampton defence.

Prediction: 3-1

Norwich v Arsenal

Key Battle: Sebastien Bassong will have to cope with a rejuvenated Olivier Giroud in this encounter.

Player to Watch: Santi Cazorla has been one of the best players this season and he can rip holes in this Norwich side.

Talking Point: Having collapsed against Liverpool and Chelsea, Arsenal will be happy with nothing less than a comfortable win in East Anglia.

Prediction: 0-3

Sunderland v Newcastle

Key Battle: Lee Cattermole will be let off the leash to harass the Newcastle midfield and in particular Yohan Cabaye.

Player to Watch: Steven Fletcher has scored all of Sunderland’s goals so far this season and he will be the obvious threat.

Talking Point: How will Newcastle fare having been underwhelming so far this season?

Prediction: 2-1

QPR v Everton

Key Battle: Everton will look to Steven Pienaar to puncture holes in the QPR defence, which has been poor all season and poorly marshalled by Ryan Nelsen.

Player to Watch: Nikica Jelavic has been prolific for Everton and will be the main threat on display here.

Talking point: QPR need to get a win under their belts but Everton have been impressive and will make them wait a bit longer.

Prediction: 1-4
