The Swede has fallen out-of-favour after failing to impress since joining the club from Aalborg in January 2007.
“There were clubs interested in the summer but time ran out and nothing was agreed. It would be great if things would change for me here, but if not then I hope in January to get something new,” he told Sunderland Echo.
“I would have won the Danish championship with Aalborg last season and be playing in Champions League football now if I had stayed there.
“That would have been great, but every professional wants a chance to play in the best league in Europe, so I don’t regret coming to Sunderland.
“Of course, I wish I could have had more time on the pitch, but this is the best league so it is the toughest league to make your mark.”
