Qatar royal family plan £1.5bn move for Man Utd

The Sunday Mirror reports that Qatar Holdings, an investment vehicle for the Qatari royal family, are ready to make a £1.5billion takeover of United.

The Qatari company has recently bought trophy assets in England such as the Harrods store and London properties such as One Hyde Park, the Shard of Glass and the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square.

Qatar Holdings chairman Sheikh Hamad Bin Jassim Bin Jabr Al-Thani is keen to add iconic investment such as United to their portfolio.

The £1.5billion move could be the end of the Glazer family’s reign at Old Trafford.

The Glazers bought the club for £790million in 2005, but borrowed against United’s assets.

Qatar Holdings are reportedly ready to pay £1.5billion to buy Manchester United and will also make £1billion available to manager Sir Alex Ferguson in the transfer market.

If Qatar Holdings are successful with their purchase of United, it will leave the club debt free.
