The 28-year-old has spent the last two seasons on loan at Sunderland and reports claim the Black Cats are considering a move to sign the defender on a permanent basis.
But the Premier League side now faces competition from Rangers.
“It is true that Rangers have expressed interest in John,” Mensah’s agent, Fabien Piveteau, told GhanaWeb. “But we are looking at other offers and taking into consideration the price tag before making a move.
“We have to sit with John’s former club Lyon for a better deal for both parties, for now, we are just considering some factors before taking the next plan of action.”
