Raul said: “I watched him make his debut on TV against Aston Villa and also saw his great goal against Chelsea. He was a symbol of Atletico Madrid and the decision to leave was a personal one for him and one I respect him a lot for.
“He is enjoying his football and it is clear he has made a big step forward in his career. He gave a lot to Atleti, but now he has taken a personal and big challenge and I’m sure he will be successful.
“With Rafa Benitez, a good coach, and the Spaniards at Liverpool, his adjustment will be easier. I’m sure he will do well.”
