The Brazilian international, who joined Spurs for £7.8million from PSV, has made several poor decisions this season.
Redknapp admitted: “He needs a bit of confidence in his decision- making. He doesn’t need to come for every ball.
“He is like David James when he went to Liverpool. He used to come rushing out thinking he had to get involved in every situation because they didn’t have centre-halves who were dominant.
“But Gomes has Woodgate and King. He has to learn to play with those two now.”
