Robson told The Sun: “If I was Liverpool manager I’d take him aside and say ‘Jamie come on now, we need you for England. Go and play for your country’.
“There’s no stimulus coming out of Liverpool to motivate him to play for his country.
“Rafa Benitez doesn’t give a monkeys!”
He continued: “Sam Allardyce was complaining about losing his players to England last week but he applied for that job.
“We have to allow our best players to go and play for England.
“One of the best bosses I had to deal with was Alex Ferguson.
“He would allow me the chance to judge whether I thought his players were fit to play international football or not.
“Not like Kenny Dalglish and Graeme Souness — they didn’t give a jot!”
