Bayer Leverkusen sporting director, Simon Rolfes, has expressed strong confidence that Xabi Alonso will not be departing for Liverpool.
There has been strong rumors of him being eyed as Jurgen Klopp’s successor at Anfield this summer.
Since Alonso’s arrival in October 2022, Leverkusen has undergone a stunning transformation, climbing from the brink of relegation to leading the Bundesliga, now sitting five points ahead of Bayern Munich.
“Yes, I’m sure of that,” Rolfes said on the Sport1 TV show Doppelpass.
“One [reason] is the contract, the other is how comfortable he feels, the family, himself. That he knows what he has in the club. That he knows that he has a very good team and that we will also have a very good prospect next year.
“That we are set up by the team in such a way that there is no upheaval because many players leave us, but that we have an absolute top team available, these are all points that, in addition to contracts coaches like Xabi, but also players who arouse interest from other clubs, often keep with us.”
Alonso’s potential stay signifies a dedication to furthering the impressive turnaround he has initiated at the BayArena.
