Roma managed to cut the gap to Inter to just five points following their 1-0 win over Catania on Sunday.
Inter were held to a goalless draw by Sampdoria on Saturday night.
“After having lost against the Greeks [Panathinaikos in the Europa League] we really needed the three points to maintain the pace with the league leaders [Inter],” Motta told Forzaroma.info.
“We need to take points away from Inter as the lead is now five points and the league poses many challenges for everyone.”
