The 33-year-old joins Roma on a free transfer after leaving French side Marseille at the end of last season.
Heinze said: “In previous years I have been fortunate to play at big clubs and now I again have an opportunity to play in another great squad like Roma, so I didn’t waste much time in deciding to come.
