The former World Player of the Year decided to quit following Corinthians failed attempt to win the Copa Libertadores, which was his final attempt to win the competition for the club.
He has suffered with injuries throughout his career and has often been accused of being overweight. He said upon retiring that “I wanted to carry on but I can’t. I plan a move in a game but I cannot execute it as I wish. The time is up.”
