The 23-year-old has two years left on his current contract that see him earn £100,000-a-week.
The new deal will see Rooney earn around £125,00 per week, the same as Rio Ferdinand and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Rooney has made no secret of his desire to sign a new long-term contract with United.
