Santa Cruz was signed by Manchester City in 2009 as they looked to buy as many players as possible.
But he is now on loan at Real Betis, and said: “I had to change because I was more interested in Betis’ fans and the philosophy of this club.
“And this team plays well, has the ball and creates opportunities.
“I made the right decision to come and I hope to stay here for a long time.”
