The 27-year-old has recently been linked with a summer move to PSV.
“I have always said that PSV and Ajax are the only two Dutch clubs that I consider to be a step forward from AZ,” Schaars was quoted as saying by Voetbal International.
“You really have to win matches at those two clubs. You have to win trophies when you play for Ajax or PSV or your season will be a failure. I am at a point in my career where I want to experience this pressure.
“Additionally, PSV are a club with a great history. I really feel flattered that they have approached AZ to discuss a transfer.”
Schaars’ current contract with AZ Alkmaar is set to expire in the summer of 2012.
