The Northern Ireland international, who has yet to make a first-team appearances for United, will stay on loan at Scunthorpe until January.
Scunthorpe boss Alan Knill insists he is in the market for even more signings.
“Hopefully we are going to try to get someone else, or maybe a couple, before the weekend, for the game against (Sheffield) Wednesday,” said Knill.
“We are low on numbers. With all the games, we are picking up a few injuries so we need a stronger squad.
“But we will just have to wait and see. I am looking to strengthen everywhere.”
