The 24-year-old has signed a four-and-a-half year contract with Sevilla after passing a medical and agreeing personal terms.
Diawara has impressed for Maritimo this season and was expected to leave the club in the January transfer window.
Diawara came close to joining Celtic last summer, but the move fell through because of work permit issues.
