The deciding goal came from an arbitration panel which on Tuesday refused to overturn an earlier decision by the Premier League that the Hammers should be fined but not docked any points for irregularities related to the signings of Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano. Sheffield’s only hope of staying up would have been for the Hammers to have points deducted and be relegated instead.
