Sheringham told Sky Sports 1 after the match: “It feels very good, it was probably the most nervous I’ve been.
“We were so shaky, and when it was 2-1 and they had an effort just over the bar in the last seconds it could have been so different.
“We’re happy. We needed to get off to a good start and if Blackburn had got the first goal it could have been very difficult in the circumstances. But the goal gave us a platform and something to keep hold of.”
