Foster is not playing regularly at United but has been called up to the England squad by Fabio Capello.
The United keeper impressed in the Carling Cup final to earn a place in the squad.
“The only thing that’s gone against him has been injuries at the wrong time,” said Shilton on Setanta Sports News.
“When he got into the Watford team from Manchester United he had a terrific season.
“When he had the England game he didn’t have a lot to do but he looked the part – then the injury struck again.
“He comes out in a big-match atmosphere in the cup final and he performs and does the business and Capello would have noticed that – he does seem to be able to handle the pressure.”
