Gomes impressed with an outstanding performance in the win over title-chasing Chelsea at the weekend.
“I’d be a liar if I told you I expected him to be performing like that when I first arrived here,” said Redknapp.
“I was worried about him. Yet everywhere I went in Europe people were telling me how good he was.
“I was still at Portsmouth when Tottenham signed him and Tony Adams, who’d done some coaching in Holland, said they’d signed one of the best goalies in the world.
“He didn’t look like that when I arrived, but now he’s playing terrifically well.”
