Spurs want to bring in the 25-year-old on loan from Real Madrid for the rest of this season, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Spurs also want the option to buy the former Portsmouth midfielder on a permanent basis in the summer.
Diarra played for Portsmouth while current Spurs manager Harry Redknapp was in charge at the club.
