The Daily Mail reports that Spurs boss Andre Villas Boas was keen on the 21-year-old earlier this year but wanted to see whether he continued to improve.
The Egyptian winger scored in Basle’s 2-1 defeat of Chelsea in the Champions League last month.
Spurs scouts watched his performance against Chelsea and will be keeping tabs on the youngster ahead of the January transfer window.
Swiss side Basle reportedly value the winger at £15million.
