The 27-year-old has recently been linked with a loan move back to Dutch side PSV Eindhoven.
“It all depends on whether Ronnie will start playing again,” Stam’s agent Chiel Dekker told NUSport.
“If he gets a new chance and more minutes of play, then he is at the right place in Wigan.
“He wants to stay in the Premier League.
“If it looks like he will not be getting much playing time, then a transfer to PSV is an option. But it won’t happen earlier than that.”
Stam’s current contract at Wigan is set to expire in the summer of 2013.
