Sunderland boss Keane: Gordon must get nasty

“All the top goalkeepers have a nasty streak and I think that is something we are working on with Craig,” Keane told the Northern Echo.

“We want to see a nastier fella so that when he is coming out for balls he is hitting people.

“I would like all my players to be a little bit nasty. It doesn’t mean that he has to become dirty or anything like that.

“That what will come with Craig over the next year or so and Craig is always working on being more dominant.

“That means becoming louder. Craig is years away from peaking but I think that he is at the right club and he will go on to be much better than he is now. But let’s not forget he is still learning his trade.

“The beauty for Craig is that he is getting more games under his belt. We all know that he won’t be peaking for a long, long time yet but the signs are positive.

“He is maturing well and becoming more of a personality.

“Technically he’s an outstanding goalkeeper and he is adding to the other side of the game that will come with experience in the Premier League this season.”
