He said: “I think that referees are put under too much pressure these days. That might sound harsh coming from me but I certainly know that I made mistakes.
“There’s that famous occasion against Boro and I admit that was 100 per cent wrong.
“Our players are reminded regularly that they have to behave properly.
“That applies to the staff as well — you have to behave in a proper way on the sidelines.
“There is no point in chasing and barging the referee like you see some managers do.
“The suspensions will take their toll and I didn’t learn that quickly enough. Of course, there is no point in talking to the ref after the game.
“I like to wait 48 hours, let the emotion die down and then get my points across.
“We speak to the players regularly about behaving themselves properly. I believe there’s a way to appeal a decision and a way not to.”
