Sunderland boss wants Diouf and Chimbonda to stay

Diouf has been linked with Blackburn and Wigan earlier this week.

Sbragia told the Sunderland Echo: “I would want to keep Pascal and I would want to keep Dioufy because if you let one of your squad players go, you have to get another one in and that’s sometimes not easy, especially at this stage of the season.

“Pascal and Dioufy have been good in training this week.

“Dioufy has been in training on his own on his day off. He’s been making sure the sports science lads have been looking after him and he’s trained well after that. That’s all good.

“I think it’s like any player – if you’re playing games you’re happy, if you’re not playing it’s a problem – but we want them both to stay and that’s our intention.”

He added: “I can’t give my best players away.

“I wouldn’t be doing the public of Sunderland any favours if I did that. I wouldn’t be doing right by the club and I wouldn’t be giving myself the best chance of staying in management if I let that happen.

“It’s as simple as that.

“As I’ve said before, I would think every player at every club in the country has his price – but that’s not me pushing anyone out of the door. I’m just being realistic on the score.

“We want them to stay, though.

“I know there’ll be a lot of interest in Dioufy because he’s a good player, but I’ve always said that I’ve got a squad of 20 or so players that I’m looking to keep at the club and he’s one of them.

“I’m actually looking to add to it, though it does take time and we have to be patient. It’s the ones who aren’t getting anywhere near the first-team squad that I’m looking to move on or find loans for them.”
