“I’m not the kind of chairman who will try to squirm out of it in 18 months saying ‘Oh, he’s terrible, I’m going to pick another one.’
“If there’s another reason for parting, fine, then you take on someone else. That’s grand.
“The days have gone, I suppose, when people have lots of time — and there is huge pressure.
“Long term, Roy is the great answer to this club’s problem and there’ll be lots and lots of rocky roads in getting there.
“But his strongest supporter will be here.”
