The Mirror reports that Grant could make a move for Ferdinand as Hammers defender Matt Upson has yet to sign a new deal with the club and his current contract is set to expire this summer.
Sunderland boss Steve Bruce may allow Ferdinand to return to the club that he joined the Black Cats from in 2008.
