Taylor said: “Some of Theo’s finishing is top-class and I’m sure he is watching a great French player in training every day. His goals on Tuesday reminded me of him a little bit. Working with Thierry is only going to help you.
“I’ve said all along he would have benefited from going to the World Cup. He takes everything in. He wouldn’t just be there for the sake of it. He would be watching the best players – what they are doing, how they beat people and so on.
“I thought it might be too much for him to play two 90 minutes in four days, so I always planned he would be more effective coming off the bench away from home.
“His pace and quality for his goals were brilliant and well-timed. I don’t think I’ve coached anyone as quick as him.”
