Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keen for the club to offer Northern Ireland centre-back Jonny Evans a new one-year contract.
The Daily Star reports that the United boss will need to rely on new club shareholder Sir Jim Ratcliffe to back him.
The 35-year-old defender Evans, who boasts an impressive 106 caps for Northern Ireland, made a surprising return to Old Trafford last summer.
Initially brought in to provide temporary cover for defensive injuries during pre-season, Evans, aged 35, managed to secure a contract extension until July after impressing manager Erik ten Hag. Evans had previously departed United in 2015.
Evans’ consistent performances on the field, combined with his positive impact and leadership in a reportedly divided locker room, have led Ten Hag to consider extending his stay for an additional year.
