Upson has been linked with a move away from Upton Park in the January transfer window and his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
“Matty is a great captain,” said West Ham team-mate Tomkins. “For me he has been brilliant because I’ve learned so much from him.
“We work very well together. It’s massive that we keep him, but that’s out of my hands.”
