The 32-year-old is desperate to get his career back on track and boost his chances of playing in next summer’s World Cup.
He told Corriere dello Sport: “I want to go to Roma. These are crucial hours to define my future and I choose Roma.
“I don’t take into consideration any other club. Now it’s up to the club and my agent to close this transfer.
“The national team is a second issue, because I have to play with continuity. I’m thinking only about this, playing in a club that will give me the opportunity to show what player I am.”
