Machado has been called up for the upcoming Euro 2012 qualifiers against Denmark and Iceland.
“It is a feeling of great joy to be involved with the Seleccao,” Machado told Rtp.pt.
“It shows the work I have been doing, not only in France but in Portugal. I think I have earned the confidence of the coach and it is up to me to work hard.
“It is a big step for me. It just demonstrates the progress I have made since the youth sides. I think I deserved this chance and I will try to grasp it.
“The next step is to keep working and to earn a place in the team. I believe in qualification and I make an appeal for all Portuguese fans to come to the stadium and support the Seleccao because they deserve it.”
