Wayne Rooney scored the only goal of the match and secured the win over newly promoted Birmingham.
“They [Birmingham] gave a very determined performance, got behind the ball and were hard to break down,” explained Sir Alex to Sky Sports.
“I though it was noticeable the amount of shots we had blocked inside the box.
“But we did enough, we had good possession of the ball and some good opportunities, played some good football at times and in general I’m satisfied with the result.”
