Robben was looking for a new club after having failed to impress during a spell with Spanish giants Real Madrid.
“I told Arjen to come to Bayern, we spoke on the phone several times,” Van Bommel told Voetbal International.
“Arjen and I loved to play together in Munich and we still do with the Netherlands national team. We have a good feeling on the pitch.
“An example of that was the decisive goal in match against England at Wembley, when I squared the ball for Arjen to score the winning goal.
“Every club can make good use of Robben. I like to play with him and I am glad that he is Dutch.”
