The 24-year-old has also been linked with Italian giants AC Milan and Inter.
Paulo Tornetto, the player’s representative said: “The negotiations have been going on very well with Villarreal.
“The only thing that is delaying the transfer is that we haven’t reached an agreement with the way in which the transfer will be paid.
“We like the proposal that Villarreal has done and this week we will be talking with their board members.
“The player is happy with the idea of playing in Spain so he is waiting for these details to get resolved so then he will be able to sign his contract.
“He hasn’t signed anything with anyone but this week the player even had the chance to talk with Llaneza (Villarreal’s director of sport) and he is happy for this chance.”
