Waddle told The Sun: “I know Becks hasn’t given up hope and Steve McClaren maintains the door is not closed.
“But I believe it has closed — the new manager has taken the decision to move on and he must now stand by it.
“Personally, I’d be amazed if Becks gets the chance to add to his 94 England caps.
“He’s been a great servant but the fact is he didn’t have a good World Cup and in Euro 2004 had a disappointing tournament as well.”
Waddle added: “Becks has hardly been producing terrific displays at Real Madrid — he can’t even get in their side.
“And what message would it send out to the promising right-wingers Aaron Lennon and Shaun Wright-Phillips?
“To put Beckham back in the team would just shatter their confidence.”
