“He was under more pressure to play for us than at Manchester United.
“If United drop him, it happens. It would be big headlines if we did it.
“He’s looked at things and felt this was the right time — and as disappointed as I am, I think he might have been right.
“I was not looking forward to be the one who has to say ‘Ryan, I’m going to leave you on the bench’.”
